Mrs. Susan Reid ESL Teacher
I was fortunate enough to be selected by the Troy School District to work as an elementary Spanish teacher in 2002. I continued in that position until 2007 when I was offered the ESL position I have today. I have worked at Costello for all of my years in Troy. I also work at Bemis and Wass Elementary Schools in the district.
I began my teaching career through a wonderful program called Teach For America. I was chosen to work in Warrenton, NC (back in 1992) teaching elementary Spanish. After four years I left to pursue a business career. I enjoyed the different jobs I had, but missed working with children too much.
I received my Bachelor of Arts in Spanish with a minor in Economics from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst in 1991. East Carolina University in North Carolina granted me my teaching certificate in 1994. Then I went on to get my Masters in the Art of Teaching from Marygrove College in 2005 and finally my ESL endorsement from Oakland University in 2006.
Outside of school, I like to stay active by playing sports and traveling. I enjoy running, bike rides, tennis and SCUBA diving. Many of my vacations are to remote SCUBA diving locations including; Costa Rica, Honduras, and Belize as well as some Caribbean islands such as Cozumel, Curacao, Bonaire and Cayman Brac. I have a wonderful husband, Dave, and two adorable twins, Jack and Julia, who were born in 2012. The rest of my family is spread out a bit so I travel to visit my brother Jim in St. Louis, my parents in Miami and my brother John in Boston. I have a very faithful black Labrador retriever named Sebastian. He would also like me to add that I enjoy taking him for long walks!
