I have been teaching 4th grade at Costello since 2012, and am so happy to be working in Troy! Being a part of the 4th grade team has given me the opportunity to meet some really caring teachers and charismatic kids! I can genuinely say it is a joy to work with students every day. Teaching is my passion and I enjoy investing time and energy into the relationships with my students which makes all of the learning possible. My philosophy about teaching is that you can’t have learning without fun and friendship first!
Previously, I taught Spanish to Kindergarten through 6th-grade students in South Lake Schools of St. Clair Shores. I also taught for a year in a 5th/6th grade multi-age class in the same district. I received a Bachelors of Science degree from Western Michigan University in Elementary Education and Spanish, with minors in English, Mathematics, and Science. I earned my Masters Degree in Educational Studies from Oakland University, and most recently completed the Ed Specialist program in Educational Leadership there as well, in order to one day be a building principal or teach at the university level. Go Broncos and Grizzlies!
I live in Rochester Hills with my wife, Briona. We have two sons named Lochlan and Dempsey, and an Australian Shepherd named Chef. I love to read, cook, travel, and sail. I look forward to many more happy years at Costello and getting to know all of you! Be sure to follow our classroom happenings on Twitter @gmckinney2 .
